Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins Continue Strong Play At Home, Defeat Purchase By 16

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team took the Peter Jay Sharp Center court for the first time in 2020, playing host to Skyline Conference foes Purchase College on Wednesday evening. The Dolphins continued their impressive run this season, as they went on to defeat the Panthers by the score of 63-47. CMSV is now 7-4 on the season, including a 5-2 mark among conference competition. The Dolphins have also continued to impress in front of their home crowd, as they've won five of six games played in Riverdale.

Fortunately for CMSV, they took control in the first quarter and never looked back. The Dolphins led throughout the entire of the first 10 minutes, which included a stretch that saw their lead grow to seven points. That theme continued into the second quarter, as the Dolphins were able to dominate on both ends of the floor. As a team CMSV shot 50% from the floor while allowing the Panthers to convert on just one of their 12 shot attempts.

While Purchase came out of the locker room with a renewed focus that saw them keep it close in the second half, their first half struggles were ultimately too much to overcome. DarNeisha Brice was once again Phil Stern's leading scorer, as she finished the night with 17 points to go along with four steals. Ashley Martin (11 points, eight rebounds) and Aria Rheams (nine points, 11 rebounds) found success both as scoring options and on the glass while Leah Pinili stuffed the stat sheet with five points, three assists and two rebounds. It was also an impressive outing for the two newcomers on the roster, as Victoria Hanley (10 points, five rebounds, five assists) and Kiera Villegas (four points, five rebounds, four steals) helped lead the team to victory.

The Dolphins will get six days to prepare before returning to action in a home matchup against Mount Saint Mary. The game is scheduled to take place on January 14 at 6 PM.
