Box Score Bronx, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team opened their 2020 season on Friday evening when they went on a brief road trip to neighboring Lehman College in a single match battle against the Lightning. The Dolphins, who finished 3-18 a year ago, are looking to get back on track as one of the powerhouse programs in the Skyline Conference.
Unfortunately for CMSV, they fell in three straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) in game number one. Junior standout
Jose Estrella began his third season in Riverdale with a bang, as he paced all teammates with seven kills, three aces and 10 points.
Felix Paulino impressed in his collegiate debut when he played in all three sets and added four kills and four digs to the stat sheet. Senior
Padelis Astrinidis had a strong game by setting up his teammates in a major way (team-high 14 assists) while classmate
Brendan Ryan's defensive performance (eight digs) helped keep the Dolphins in the game. Like Paulino,
Danylo Szkafarowsky,
Terence Strehle and
Samuel Martinez also played in their first college volleyball contest.
The Dolphins will regroup quickly as they return to action on Saturday when they head to Rutgers-Newark for a tri-match that also includes Messiah College. CMSV's first game is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
