Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Dolphins Sweep Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ - The Women's Volleyball team hit the road Tuesday evening to take on non-conference opponent Rutgers-Newark. The Dolphins continued their early season success as they swept Rutgers 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19).  The Women have yet to drop a set this season and improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2009. CMSV will have a week break before they head back to New Jersey to take on William Patterson on 9/10.

The first set was a tight one with a ton of back and fourth action, The Dolphins turned to Tara Maloney anytime they needed a point. The Senior had seven kills in the opening set. With the Dolphins trailing 21-20 it looked like they may drop their first set of the season but the Dolphins got hot and rattled off five straight points to win the first set in comeback fashion. The second set the Dolphins were in control from the start with a 3-0 run to start the set then eventually jumping out to a 16-10 lead, CMSV would never look back as they went on to win the second set 25-20. The third set was much of the same as the Dolphins continued to flex their muscles in route to a 25-19 third set victory. The Dolphins were led by Maloney with 12 kills, Samantha Schroeder who had 11 of her own and Alexandra Madden who chipped in eight. On the defensive end Alexandra Rio had a nice evening with 13 digs.

Now sitting at an overall record of 2-0 the Dolphins will have a week break before taking on William Patterson in Wayne, NJ at 7PM. CMSV will look to continue their impressive early season success and move to 3-0 before their Home opener on September 11th.
