Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dolphins Shine In Home Opener Verse CCNY

Riverdale, NY- The Women's Soccer team was finally back in action on this beautiful Friday evening. The Dolphins did not miss a step as they came out on fire and played well throughout in route to a 4-1 victory over CCNY. The Dolphins will look to continue their strong play next time out on September 4th right back on here on Marillac.

To open the game freshmen Caitlin May got the offense started with her first collegiate goal off the assist from Julia Leggett. With the 1-0 lead the Dolphins defense of Lauren Vetoulis, Alyssa Santeramo and Kora-Lynn McCullough shined and locked down the Beavers and gave their offense opportunity after opportunity. Despite solid goalkeeping from the Beavers the Dolphins would break through again on a penalty kick scored by Cristina Britton to give them a 2-0 lead with 14 minutes to play in the first half. The Dolphins would continue to keep pressure on the Beavers through the rest of the half which resulted in Britton netting her second goal with seven minutes remaining in the half to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead. The defense would continue to shine and shutout the Beavers in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

The Dolphins came out ready to go in the second half firing of five shots in the opening 10 minutes. Thanks to good goalkeeping play from the Beavers none of them found the back of the net.  The teams would both stall for the next 20 minutes before two quick goals. The first was from CCNY on a penalty kick then the Dolphins answered immediately on Georgina Perdomo goal, Perdomo was assisted by Paulina Mandujano. CMSV lead 4-1 with 17 minutes remaining in the game. The score would hold for the remainder of the game and the Dolphins would earn their first victory of 2019. The Dolphins saw some very solid play out of their freshmen and have a bright season in front of them.

CMSV now has an overall record of 1-0, The Dolphins will be back in action Wednesday September 4th when they talk on last year's Little East Conference Champion Western Connecticut State. The Dolphins will be looking to continue their good play and move to 2-0.
