Dolphins Sweep Bears, Continue Strong Conference Play

Patchogue, NY - Just days after handedly beating city rival Baruch College, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team returned to Skyline Conference action on Saturday when they hit the road to take on St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. In what is becoming a theme of the season, the Dolphins played extremely well throughout the two game affair and swept the Bears, with the first game finishing 15-5 while CMSV took game two by the score of 2-0.

The first contest featured a strong offensive outpouring from the Dolphins, something that has been a consistent part of the team's overall game. In the 10-run route, Jake Blinstrub, Matt DiNorcia, Anthony Nocero, Nick Saranczak and Pedro Fortoso all collected three hits apiece while Michael Grisanti, Isidoros Bartziokas, Matt Albert, Eric Zimmermann and Christian Rodriguez all had at least one hit themselves. Like the hit column, the Dolphins also saw RBI contributions from all over their lineup; nine different members of the baseball team drove in at least one run, with Blinstrub, Saranczak, Albert and Fortoso knocking in two each. For the second straight start, junior Amir Nitowski dominated Skyline competition. He went all nine innings against the Bears, allowing zero earned runs and seven hits while striking out three along the way. The win lowered Nitowski's season ERA to 2.64.

Game two featured a fantastic pitching performance between Conference rivals but was highlighted by a complete game shutout from freshman Peter Sanderson. The first year starting pitching struck out eight in seven innings of work while allowing just four walks and three hits. Grisanti, another standout freshman, broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the fourth inning when he belted his team-leading second home run of the season. Bartziokas gave the Dolphins an insurance run in the top of the sixth when he singled home DiNorcia.

Now with a 6-4 record against Skyline competition, CMSV sits in fifth place in the conference, which would earn the team a playoff spot if the season ended today. They'll look to carry their momentum into Sunday when they travel to Kings Point to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a double header.
