Kings Point, NY – The Baseball team took the diamond on Sunday just a day after completing a sweep of conference foe St. Joseph's Brooklyn. Today the men took on USMMA who sit at the top of the conference standings. After two tough matchups the men came away with two losses.
The first game of the day had no shortage of offense as both teams came ready to hit. The Dolphins struck first with three runs in the top of the first thanks to
Michael Grisanti who drove in one run and catcher
Matt Albert who ripped a two RBI single to score
Anthony Nocero and
Nick Saranczak. This 3-0 lead did not intimidate the Mariners who came right back with four runs of their own in the first to take a 4-3 lead. The Dolphins would get held scoreless for the next three innings, this was not the case for the Mariners who added six more runs in the second and another two runs in the fourth to take a 12-3 lead. With their backs against the wall it was time for the Dolphins to battle back which is just what they did as they saw three runs cross the plate in the fifth. Nocero,
Matt DiNorcia and
Jake Blinstrub would score the runs for the Dolphins and Saranczak would be responsible for the lone RBI. The Dolphins would tighten up defensively and hold USMMA scoreless in the fifth and sixth. After the three run fifth inning, CMSV would add one more in the 6
th on a Grisanti bases loaded walk. CMSV would head into the 7
th inning trailing 12-7. After a scoreless top half, the Mariners got going again scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 15-7 lead. The Dolphins were held scoreless over the last two innings and 15-7 would be our final.
The Marniers bats would stay hot for the second game of the double header. USMMA would score at least one run in each of the first four innings which propelled them to a 6-1 lead. Grisanti would score the Dolphins only run in the top of the fourth to keep CMSV within striking distance. Throughout the next three innings of play the pitching for each team would lock it down. No runs would come across the plate for either side and the final would be 6-1.
The Men will have a five-day break before taking the field again. This time they will be taking on Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference double header. They will be looking to win their seventh and eighth conference game which would be a first for the program since 2015. CMSV currently sits at an overall record of 11-12 and a Skyline Conference record of 6-6.
