Harrison, NY - After dropping their last two games against Skyline opponents, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team returned to action, looking to add to their impressive conference record against Yeshiva University. The Dolphins did just that, as they impressed in dominant fashing, winning the first game 12-5 and following that up with a 21 run victory over the Maccabees.
While game one ended with CMSV on top, it didn't start that way. Yeshiva opened up their scoring spree with a two run home run and passed ball in the first inning to give them an early three run advantage. The Maccabees capitalized once again in the fourth when a sacrifice fly extended their lead to four. But from then on, it was all Dolphins. After walking the bases loaded, freshman
Jake Blinstrub got a big first hit of the game for the Dolphins in the fifth inning when he hit a bases clearing double to cut Yeshiva's lead to one.
Anthony Nocero and
Eric Zimmermann followed Blinstrub up with two RBI singles to give CMSV their first lead of the day. The floodgates opened from there as Blinstrub, Nocero, Zimmermann,
Dylan Torpey and
Isidoros Bartziokas each drove in at least one run between innings six and eight, which led their team to victory. After an up and down outing from
Nick Saranczak,
Sean McHugh settled things down out of the bullpen when he allowed just one run on three hits in the final six innings of the game.
While the first game was close at points, the second contest was all Dolphins from beginning to end. Nocero got the Dolphins on the board early with an RBI in the first, and the floodgates opened from there. In the second frame of the game, Steven Hanson, Blinstrub,
Matt DiNorcia, Nocero and Saranczak combined to drive in seven runs to give their team an 8-0 advantage. From there, the Dolphins went on to receive contributions from all over their lineup, highlighted by a
Michael Grisanti home run, a three hit, four RBI afternoon from Nocero and a perfect 4-4 day from Bartziokas. Freshman
Frank Bukovsky, a recent call up from the team's junior varsity program, got his first hit and RBI of his collegiate career in the sixth inning.
Tyler Reyes threw a gem against Yeshiva, pitching in all seven innings while allowing just three hits and striking out 10 along the way.
After the dominant Friday performance, the Dolphins will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Connecticut to take on Albertus Magnus on April 13.
