Kings Point, NY- On a cold rainy Friday the Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Long Island to take on conference #1 USMMA. After hard fought battle the Women would fall by a score of 14-3.
Early on the Mariners were firing on all cylinders opening up the game on a 7-0 run over the first 12 minutes of the game. Goalie Allyson Weakliem was standing tall in the net for CMSV making five big time saves to keep the Dolphins in it. To end the run Pauliana Mandujano would bury a free position shot to cut the lead to 7-1. After the Dolphins first goal the Mariners would strike back and go on a 4-0 run to end the half to take a 11-1 lead. Weakliem would finish the half with eight saves.Â
To open the second half the Mariners would strike first but the Dolphins would answer with two goals of their own to cut the lead to 12-3. Emma Dell'Aquila would net the first one and then find a cutting Caitlin Elia for the second goal. After these two quick goals by the Dolphins, USMMA would have an answer scoring two goals just a minute apart, to push their lead back to 11. From here on the offenses for both squads slowed down as neither team registered a goal over the final 24 minutes of play. The Dolphins defense tightened up thanks to great play from Freshmen Casey Brown and Junior Grace Barry. Weakliem would finish with 12 saves on the day. Although the Dolphins fell they held an extremely high powered offense to three goals in the second half which is the lowest they have been held all season long in one half. The future is bright for CMSV.Â
The Women will have the weekend off and be back in action on Tuesday, April 9th right here on Marillac. The Dolphins will be taking on Maritime. CMSV now sits at an overall record of 4-3 and a Skyline Conference record of 1-1.Â
