Dolphins Drop Conference Matchup To Privateers

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team played host to SUNY Maritime in a Skyline Conference affair on a gloomy Tuesday morning. Despite a tough, hard fought battle by the Dolphins, the Privateers escaped with a narrow 10-6 victory. The loss puts CMSV at an overall record of 4-4 with a conference mark of 1-2.

Over the first 21 minutes of play in the game, both teams traded goals and proved why they're both in the running for playoffs in the Skyline Conference. After an opening goal by Maritime, sophomore Caitlin Elia responded with her 16th goal of 2019 off a pass from teammate Emma Dell'Aquila to tie the game up at one. The Dolphins responded to yet another one of the Maritime's goals, this time from Dell'Aquila. Maritime once again got on the board but the trading of goals back and forth continued when Elia assisted Veronica Sevivas to even things up at three.

From there, however, the Privateers began to ran away with things when they rattled off five straight goals both to end the first half and start the second half. While CMSV scored three more points (two from Dell'Aquila, one from Elia), it was too little, too late as Maritime was able to walk out of the rain with a four goal victory. Elia, Dell'Aquila, Sevivas, Morgan Pavlik and Amy Cohen paced their team with two ground balls apiece while Elia, Dell'Aquila and Cohen led the Dolphins in caused turnovers with two each. Pavlik had a team-high eight draw controls while goaltender Allyson Weakliem made nine saves.

The Dolphins will play host for the final team this season on Thursday when they take on St. Joseph's College-Long Island. The first draw control of the afternoon is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
