Farmingdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent wrapped up regular season Skyline Conference play on Saturday when they traveled to Long Island to take on Farmingdale State. Despite their efforts, the Dolphins dropped both games to the top-seeded Rams, which led to a final conference record of 9-9 for the 2019 season.
The first contest saw Farmingdale handedly defeat CMSV by the score of 10-0. Between the second and sixth innings, the Rams plated five straight runs, giving their team the lead for good. The home team eventually scored an additional five runs in the eighth to secure the mercy victory. The Dolphins scattered five hits across the game, including one each from
Anthony Nocero,
Michael Grisanti,
Matt DiNorcia,
Pedro Fortoso and
Matt Albert.
Unlike game one, the second game featured a tight affair that resulted in a four-run loss. The Dolphins were ready to go, as they scored their two runs in the second inning to take the lead. First up was Fortoso, who drove in Grisanti when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The small ball game continued when
Matt Albert's sacrifice bunt plated DiNorcia, giving starting hurler
Peter Sanderson some breathing room early on. From there, however, it was all Rams, as they tied the game up in the bottom of the inning and then took the lead for good later in the fifth. Grisanti paced the team with three hits in the second affair, with
Eric Zimmermann hitting two of his own.
Jeremy Glazer impressed in a relief appearance, as he allowed just one baserunner in 1.1 innings.
The loss may have stung for a bit, but it was temporary. At the conclusion of the double header, the Dolphins were notified of their inclusion into the Skyline Conference playoffs for the first time since 2014. But before CMSV gets there, they'll need to take care of non-conference competition, as they'll be taking on the City College of New York on Saturday in a two-game affair.
