Patchogue, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team made their final road trip against Skyline opponents when they traveled to Patchogue to take on St. Joseph's College-Long Island in a conference double header on Monday evening. The Dolphins and Golden Eagles split both contests, giving CMSV a 9-5 conference record, good for the fourth seed if playoffs started today.
Game one saw the Dolphins walk away with an impressive 5-2 victory. Junior standout
Hannah Thompson impressed on the mound once again, as she went all seven innings while striking out seven batters and simultaneously lowering her season's ERA to 4.07. CMSV's offense got on the board early and never looked back, as
Sophia Herrera,
Taylor Milata and
Alanna Alioto-Reyes each drove in a run in the top of the first inning. While the Golden Eagles responded with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning, Thompson held strong until the bats came alive once more in the top of the fifth. It was that inning where Milata and Reyes picked up another pair of RBI to ensure their team the win.
The second game, however, was all Golden Eagles, as they escaped with a 10-2 win. Similar to the first contest, the Dolphins got on the board early with Milata and
Katie Moos driving in one run each in the top of the first inning. But from there, St. Joe's Long Island took over, scoring 10 unanswered runs between the first and sixth innings. Moos registered a team-high two hits in the losing effort.
The Dolphins will now set their sights on non-conference foe Lehman College, who they'll take on in an evening double header on Wednesday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
