Bronx, NY - After a Skyline Conference split against St. Joseph's College - Long Island on Monday, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team returned to the field, this time in non-conference competition, and took on Lehman College on Wendesday. In preparation of the playoffs, the Dolphins handedly defeated the Lightning, first by the score of 9-0 and then 15-3.
CMSV got on the board early and often against Lehman, with the game eventually ending early due to a mercy rule. Senior
Katie Moos started things off with two RBI triple to give her team an early two run edge. The Dolphins eventually added one more that inning when Moos scored on a wild pitch. The offensive outpouring continued in the third inning as
Taylor Milata,
Taylor Wittick and
Lakisha Camacho all drove in one run each to extend CMSV's lead to six. The Dolphins weren't done there, as both Milata and
Breeze-Lyn Morita drove in three more runs to secure the victory. Freshman hurler
Kayla Pagano was outstanding on the mound as she went all five innings while allowing just one hit and striking out seven.
Similar to the first contest, game one was an offensive attack by the Dolphins. Once again CMSV got on the board early, as
Sophia Herrera opened things up with a bases loaded walk to open things up in the first inning. The Lightning responded with three straight runs over the next three innings, but from there, it was all Dolphins. The fourth was a breakout inning for the visitors as Moos, Milata,
Deanna Nardi,
Nicole Schweit and Morita all had a hand in giving their team an 8-3 lead. From there, Moos, Morita, Nardi and
Erin Patterson collected RBI over the final two innings, giving their team yet another win.
Kimberly Medina had a strong outing out the bullpen, as she struck out three while allowing just two baserunners over the final three frames.
The Dolphins will return to the playing field on Saturday when they matchup in a Skyline Conference playoff preview against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in a pair of games that will decide who has home field advantage in the first round.
