Dobbs Ferry, NY - The Women's softball team headed into Sunday's double header after securing their biggest win of the season just the day before. CMSV was looking to remain hot and continue their success in conference play. After a strong first game the Dolphins came away with a 4-0 victory, but fell in the second game of the day 8-1.
Hannah Thompson was the story of the first game of the afternoon as the Junior pitched a complete game shutout. Thompson started the day by striking out the side in the first inning and never looked back. On the offensive end CMSV got going in the first inning thanks to a double from
Alanna Alioto-Reyes that drove in
Erin Patterson. Thompson would continue to Dominate on the mound and the Dolphins offense would continue to produce. In the second inning the Dolphins would add two more runs thanks to
Katie Moos and
Sophia Herrera who would each record an RBI in the inning. After another shutdown inning from Thompson,
Deanna Nardi would drive in yet another run on a sacrifice fly to give CMSV a 4-0 lead. This is all the Dolphins would need with Thompson on the mound who finished the complete game shutout with seven strikeouts and only five hits allowed.
The second game of the afternoon did not go as the Dolphins hoped. The Gryphons would be held scoreless in the first inning but would see one run cross the plate in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th inning. The Dolphins would be shutout through the first five innings despite getting runners in scoring position multiple times. The Dolphins in the sixth trailing 3-0 would finally get on the board in the sixth when
Taylor Milata drove in Moos to cut the lead to 3-1. The Gryphons would respond in a big way as they turned it on in the top of the seventh and scored five runs to take an 8-1 lead. Now in the bottom of the seventh it was CMSV's last chance, the Dolphins would load the bases in the inning but could not manage to bring any home. CMSV would fall 8-1.
After todays split the Dolphins are now 11-18 overall and have a conference record of 8-4. CMSV will be right back in Skyline Conference action on Tuesday as they travel to Long Island to take on the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles.
