Hamden, CT - After dominating Skyline Conference foe Yeshiva University on Friday afternoon, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team turned their attention to non-conference opponent Albertus Magnus College in an double header matinee on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they failed to come out on top in either contest, losing by the scores of 3-2 in game one and 17-5 in game two.
The first game featured a pitchers' duel between both sides. Despite picking up the loss, senior
Jeremy Glazer had a strong performance as he allowed just three hits in 4.1 innings of work.
Alex LeBeau came in for relief and pitched 1.2 frames of scoreless baseball. After the Falcons scored three runs in the first five innings, the Dolphins' offense finally woke up in the sixth. A
Matt DiNorcia single to center drove in
Michael Grisanti to cut the lead to two, while
Steven Hansen's fielder's choice scored the second run of the game. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late as the Falcons were able to close out the one run game.
Unlike the first contest, game two was all about the offense. Albertus Magnus got on the board early and often as they scored seven first inning runs and never looked back. The Dolphins finally crossed the plate in the second inning when freshman standout
Jake Blinstrub doubled in two runners. Despite
Dan Blake scoring on a wild pitch and a two RBI triple from DiNorcia, it wasn't enough to ensure the Dolphins a victory. DiNorcia was a focal point in the team's offensive output, going 5-7 with three RBI between both games.
Despite the losses, the Dolphins are still in prime position to fight for a playoff spot within the Skyline Conference. They'll have to regroup and get ready to go immediately as they travel to Newburgh to take on Mount Saint Mary College on April 14.
