Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Dolphins Drop Consecutive Sets To Bearcats

Riverdale, N.Y. - The men's volleyball team took their home court on Thursday evening looking to get back to their winning ways against CUNYAC foe Baruch College. The Dolphins dropped their last two contests against fantastic completion in NJCU and Hunter College. The men battled hard this evening but fell in straight sets.

The Bearcats of Baruch came out ready to play and jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. CMSV had an answer as sophomore Jose Estrella made a huge block to get the run going. The Dolphins would eventually tie things at four. The two squads would go back and forth up until midway through the match. After the teams were tied at 10, the Bearcats would find their grove and go on a long 15-2 run in route to a 25-12 first set victory.  Estrella continued his strong season as he registered three kills and a block in the first frame. Brendan Ryan had a great defensive set, recording four digs for the Dolphins.

Baruch carried over their success from the end of the first set and scored the first eight points of the second set and forced CMSV to take a timeout. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they failed to get into any sort of an offensive groove as they failed to score a point throughout the entirety of the set.

After struggling to get on the board, the Dolphins came to their senses in the third set when Estrella and Ryan combined for a block which brought CMSV within two early on. The Dolphins kept things close in the opening minutes of the set, which included freshman Jeremy Gonzalez recording an impressive ace to cut the deficit to six. The Bearcats, however, did their best to halt any run that the Dolphins had in them. The opposition walked away with yet another set victory, completing the sweep of the Dolphins. Despite the loss, Estrella impressed once again with four kills while Ryan added six digs. Padelis Astrinidis had five assists on the afternoon while Tim Donnelly had a team-high two aces.

The Dolphins will return to action on Sunday when the host a tri-match against Wentworth Institute of Technology and SUNY Poly.
