Westchester, NY - After a tough matchup against NYU on Thursday the Men were ready to get back on to the diamond and take on conference foe SUNY Purchase. CMSV continued their strong play but ended up splitting the day. Winning the first game of the double header 7-3, then falling in the second game by that same score 7-3. After todays games the Men sit at an overall record of 8-8 and a Skyline Conference record of 4-2.
In game one of the day the Dolphins gave
Amir Nitowski the nod and he did not disappoint. Nitowski pitched a complete game striking out 12 while not walking a single batter, through out the the complete game Nitwoski only allowed three runs. This outing put the Dolphins in great position to pick up their fourth conference win of the year and that is just what they did. CMSV's offense got going early scoring two runs in the first inning off the bats of
Anthony Nocero who drove in leadoff batter
Jake Blinstrub and
Michael Grisanti who drove in
Matt DiNorcia. Purchase would get one back in the top half of the second while CMSV was held scoreless. The next action offensively would not come until the fourth were Purchase took a 3-2 lead, this lead was short lived as the Dolphins bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth. CMSV would score three runs in the inning,
Zachary Saunders,
Nick Saranczak and Blinstrub would all earn an RBI. The Dolphins would never look back after they took the 5-3 lead in the fourth thanks to Nitowski who only allowed one hit after the fourth inning. CMSV would add some insurance in the eighth as Saranczak would record his second RBI and
Isidoros Bartziokas would get in on the action as he drove in Saranczak. This would lead to the 7-3 conference victory.Â
For the second game of the day, the Dolphins would fall 7-3. Despite a slow start which resulted in the Panthers jumping out to an early 7-1 lead after the first three innings, CMSV battled back like they have done all year. After falling behind early the bullpen did its job and kept the Dolphins within striking distance.
Robert Modica pitched 3.1 innings only allowing three hits, while striking out two and allowing zero runs.
Tyler Reyes would enter in the seventh and earn a quick 1,2,3, inning. Thanks to the solid pitching from the bullpen it allowed CMSV to try and chip away. In the sixth inning the Dolphins had two runners on with nobody out, but the Panthers turned a double play and only allowed one run in the inning. Now CMSV trailing 7-2 heading into the seventh and final inning it was now or never. Bartziokas would get on to start the inning, but the Panthers would get two quick outs, DiNorcia would drive in Bartziokas to cut the lead to 7-3 but that is as close as they would get.Â
CMSV will be right back in action tomorrow as they take on another Skyline Conference opponent, Maritime. Tomorrow will be the battle of the Bronx and the men will be looking to separate themselves from the rest of the Skyline Conference.Â
