Game Recap: Baseball |

Dolphins Drop Two Heartbreakers Against Maritime

Throggs Neck, NY - The Baseball team was back in action just a day after splitting a conference double-header with Purchase on Saturday. Today they faced off with Bronx rival Maritime, they were looking to climb the polls in the Skyline and separate from the rest of the field. But after a total of 23 innings the Dolphins came away with no wins on the day and two heartbreaking losses. Game one of the day they fell 6-5 in thirteen innings, and game number two they fell 6-5 in ten innings.

The CMSV offense got off to a great start in game number one scoring three runs in the first two innings of the day, Matt DiNorcia opened up the scoring when he was driven in off the bat of Michael Grisanti. Freshman Pete Sanderson would continue his strong season as he would earn a quick 1,2,3 first inning. The Dolphins would come out and tack two more runs in the second inning off the bat of Jake Blinstrub. After a scoreless third inning CMSV would add another run in the fourth on Blinstrub's third RBI of the day. CMSV would take a 4-0 lead into the 5th inning thanks to a terrific outing from Sanderson. Maritime would get on the board in the fifth as they saw two runs cross the plate and cut the Dolphins lead in half at 4-2. The 6th, 7th and 8th innings both teams were held scoreless. CMSV would add some insurance in the 9th thanks to Blinstrub yet again who recorded his fourth RBI of the day. Now with a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth Maritime would piece together three runs and force extra innings. In extras the Dolphins would hand the ball to Tyler Reyes who pitched brilliantly for three innings, CMSV unfortunately could not get a run across in extras and ultimately fell in the 13th 6-5.

The second game of the Doubleheader was near identical to the first game of the day. The Dolphins got two on the board early, Anthony Nocero and Blinstrub would score the two runs fot the Dolphins. Martime would answer scoring four runs over the first two innings to take a 4-2 lead. From here on out Senior Jermey Glazer would settle down and only allow one more run in the fourth which extended Maritimes lead to 5-2. Now trailing by three CMSV would do as they have been doing all year and stage a comeback, in the sixth inning the bats came to life. Blinstrub would continue his unbelievable day and rip a double down the left field line to drive in Isidoros Bartziokas. DiNorcia would get in on the action and drive in Blinstrub with a single. But that was not all, Nocero would come up with two outs and rip a single to right scoring DiNorcia and tying the game at five. After a scoreless seventh the game would go into extra innings, after great pitching through 2.2 in extras Maritime would end up finding a gap and take the second game of the day 6-5.

The Men will finally have a little break before their next game April 4th against Baruch College. After the tough matchups today the Dolphin sit at an overall record of 8-10 and a Skyline Conference record of 4-4.
