Baseball Struggles Against Non-Conference NYU

Brooklyn, NY - After winning five of their last games against an array of tough competition, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team had another test on Thursday when they matched up against a strong New Yor University baseball team that came into the game with an overall record of 11-3. The Dolphins battled throughout the nine inning affair but ultimately fell to the Violets by the score of 11-3.

NYU came out scoring early and often against the Dolphins, as they plated a total of 10 runs over the first two innings of play. While CMSV's pitching staff eventually settled down, it was too little, too late. The foursome of Tommy Sharfetz, Robert Modica, Nick Saranczak and Peter Sanderson all impressed in relief appearances on Thursday evening. The offense woke up in the fifth inning when freshman Jake Blinstrub hit an RBI double to drive in Dan Blake, cutting NYU's lead to nine. In the final two innings of play, the Dolphins were able to plate two more runs: one off a Blake single to drive in Pedro Fortoso and a bases loaded walk by Anthony Nocero

Sharfetz, Modica and Sanderson paced the Dolphins with one strikeout each. Blinstrub, Saranczak and Blake each had two hits apiece, good for the team lead as well. Anthony Nocero displayed a strong eye at the plate with a team-high two walks.

The Dolphins will rebound and look to continue their winning ways within the Conference when they take on Skyline foe Purchase College. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 12 PM.
