Baseball Continues Strong Play With Victory Over Raptors

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - The baseball team was back in action for the third time in as many days. Today, they traveled to Annandale-on-Hudson to take on non-conference foe Bard. The men have won four of their last five and were looking to continue their strong play. That is just what the Dolphins did, as they won a slugfest against the Raptors by the score of 12-9. CMSV now sits with an overall record of 7-6.

The bats were going early and often on Tuesday afternoon. Bard would strike first and score two runs in the bottom of the first inning. CMSV would answer right back with three runs of their own in the top of the second. Michael Grisanti, Dylan Torpey and Dan Blake would all cross the plate. The big hit of the inning was a two RBI double from freshman Nick Saranczak. The Raptors would get one back and knot the game up at three heading into the third. After a scoreless third inning, Bard would retake the lead in the fourth thanks to a three run inning, which put them ahead 6-3 heading into the fifth.

The story of the year for CMSV has been their ability to battle back and that is just what they did with an impressive six-run fifth inning. Grisanti, Blake, Pedro Fortoso, Eric Zimmermann, Zachary Saunders and Isidoros Bartziokas would all score a run for the Dolphins while Matt DiNorcia, Jake Blinstrub, Saunders and Grisanti all registered an RBI. The Dolphins were now in control with a 9-6 lead and would not look back. Great pitching from Fortoso in the fifth and sixth would give CMSV time to add some insurance runs and that is just what they did, adding two runs in sixth and one in the seventh to extend their lead to 12-6. The Raptors would threaten in the bottom of the seventh when they pushed three runs across but Fortoso would stop the bleeding, forcing back to back ground outs to get out of the inning with the 12-9 lead intact. The Dolphins would stick with Fortoso in the eighth and final inning and he did not disappoint as he had a quick one two three inning, including two strikeouts.

CMSV has just one day off before they take the field again, The Dolphins play March 28 at MCU Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, against New York University at 3:30 PM. With today's win, CMSV has now won two straight games and five of their last six.
