Dolphins Drop OT Heartbreaker To Mitchell

Bronx, NY - After playing a tight contest just a few days prior, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team returned to the field on Saturday to take on a traveling Mitchell College in an evening affair. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they faced a similar fate; despite playing extremely hard from whistle to whistle, they ultimately fell to the Mariners in overtime by the score of 12-11.

The first quarter may have been a defensive battle for most of its time, but that wasn't the case for freshman standout Patrick Nagy, who scored two goals off passes from Anthony Pedatella to give his team a two point edge. The second quarter, however, saw the offense pick up on both sides. There were a total of seven goals scored over the final 15 minutes of the quarter, including four from the Dolphins: Nagy twice (one from Matthew Pincus), Pedatella and Jaiden Martinez. Nagy and Jarret McLean picked up assists for the Dolphins.

The third quarter opened quickly with a Mitchell goal, making the game tied at seven. Pincus however, potted one of his own, once again giving CMSV the lead as time dwindled away. Nagy scored once more off a Martinez pass, but for the most part, the Mariners outperformed the Dolphins, as the visitors walked into the final quarter of regulation with an 8-7 lead. McLean made sure the Dolphins would stay even with the Mariners, as his fourth goal of 2019 tied things up at eight in the opening minute of the fourth. The fantastic freshmen duo of Nagy and Pincus continued their offensive outpouring, as Nagy scored his sixth goal of the game in a man up situation and Pincus added a goal and two assists to his resume. But three Mitchell goals in the final four minutes forced overtime, which ultimately led to an OT loss. Defenders Nick DiStefano and Kyle McGovern paced the Dolphins with two caused turnovers apiece while Christian Brody stood out once more with a career high 30 saves.

CMSV will look to halt their three game losing streak when they host Morrisville State College on March 27.
