CMSV Victorious In Battle Of The Dolphins

Staten Island, NY - After winning two of five games during their Spring Break trip to Florida, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team returned to action on Wednesday evening when they traveled to Staten Island to take on the College of Staten Island. An offensive outburt and dominant pitching was the winning formula for the CMSV Dolphins, as they handedly defeated the CSI Dolphins by the score of 15-2.

The scoring came early and often for CMSV. After Jake Blinstrub reached base in the first at-bat of the game, Anthony Nocero hit a single to right field, giving his team the early one run edge. Isidoros Bartziokas came to the plate with the bases loaded later in the first and walked, making it a 2-0 game. Once the contest reached the top of the third inning, the game itself became out of reach. Bartziokas continued his impact on offense when he hit a two RBI double to extend the lead to four. From there, Matt Albert, Tyler Paulino, Matt DiNorcia, Michael Grisanti and Zachary Saunders all recorded at least one RBI, resulting in a 12-0 CSI deficit.

But it wasn't all offense for the Dolphins. Head coach John Muller went with six different pitchers on Wednesday evening, and each pitcher found success. Freshman Peter Sanderson received the start and allowed just two hits while striking out three in the opening two innings of the game. Tommy Sharfetz took the ball from there and duplicated Sanderson's line, pitching two innings with two hits and three strikeouts of his own. Sean McHugh and Tyler Reyes combined for three hits and two strikeouts over the next two innings, with Pedro Fortoso and Nick Saranczak pitching in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

Now at 3-3 on the year, the Dolphins will open up Skyline Conference play against St. Joseph's College - Long Island in a double header on Saturday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
