Riverdale, NY - For the first time this season, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team played in their home city of Riverdale when they hosted SUNY Plattsburgh on Wednesday evening. Their first home game was an impressive one, as the Dolphins walked away with a 16-12 victory over the Cardinals, bringing them to 2-1 on this season.
CMSV started the game cold, resulting in an early two goal hole within the first six minutes of play. But it wasn't long before the Dolphins struck back, as
Morgan Pavlik,
Emma Dell'Aquila and
Veronica Sevivas potted three straight goals in the span of two minutes, putting the Dolphins ahead by a point. The back and forth play continued throughout the first half; despite SUNY Plattsburgh putting in an additional four goals past goalie
Allyson Weakliem, Pavlik,
Caitlin Elia and two from
Paulina Mandujano gave CMSV a 7-6 edge heading into halftime.
The close affair continued over the final 30 minutes of play, as each team traded goals throughout the second half. Both Pavlik and Dell'Aquila shined, as they combined for six second half goals, while Mandujano, Sevivas and
Amy Cohen all chipped in, resulting in the 16-12 victory. Weakliem had an impressive afternoon for the Dolphins, as she registered a dominant 18 saves against the Cardinals. On top of her four goals, Dell'Aquila also added three assists while Pavlik led the way with 11 draw controls and 10 ground balls.
With their impressive victory behind them, the Dolphins will get back on the field on March 28 when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Wilkes University.
