Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Dolphins Split Tri-Match Against Lehman, Medgar Evers

Riverdale, N.Y. – For the second time in the span of a week, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team hosted a tri-match, this time against local competition in Lehman College and Medgar Evers College. After the day of games, the Dolphins left the Sharp Center with a split, winning their game against the Lightning while dropping their contest to the Cougars.

After CMSV impressed over the first two sets - winning 25-13 and 25-14 – they faced a tall task of holding back a feisty Lehman team who was looking to win the third set and force a fourth. The teams went back and forth all the way until the end, when CMSV was able to get two kills in a row to win 26-24. Junior Brendan Ryan led the way with 10 kills in the first game, with Jose Estrella (nine) and Tim Donnelly (two) were next in line. Estrella also paced the Dolphins with three aces and Padelis Astrinidis impressed with 18 assists.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, the second matchup was against CUNYAC powerhouse Medgar Evers, resulting in a 3-0 sweep in the final match of the afternoon. Despite the losses, CMSV played up to their competition and kept it close throughout all three sets. The trio of Estrella, Ryan and Christian Santiago combined for 14 kills, Astrinidis had 12 assists and Ryan paced the squad with seven digs.

After going 1-1 on the afternoon, the Dolphins now sit with a record of 2-9. They'll return to their home court on Tuesday and open up Skyline Conference play in a championship rematch from a year ago against St. Joseph's College – Long Island.
