Ft. Pierce, FL - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team wrapped up their week-long trip to Florida with a game against Wheaton College of Illinois on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they struggled in their Spring Break finale, losing to the Thunder by the score of 11-1. They head back to New York with an overall record of 2-5 after going 2-3 over this past week.
For a majority of the game, it was all Wheaton College. After a pitchers' duel over the first two innings of play, the Thunder broke the 0-0 score with a run scored off an error. Over the next eight frames, Wheaton College continued their offensive outpouring, scoring 11 straight runs before the Dolphins could get on the board. But in the top of the ninth, CMSV finally broke through when Pasquale Corretto grounded out, driving in
Anthony Faldetta in the process. That would be the only run scored by the Dolphins throughout their morning contest.Â
Despite picking up the loss, starter
Tommy Sharfetz had a strong game. Through five innings of work, the senior allowed just one earned run while striking out five along the way. Leadoff hitting freshman
Jake Blinstrub led the way for the Dolphins with two hits.Â
CMSV will return to campus this weekend and prepare for their matchup on March 20 against the College of Staten Island. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.Â
