Clermont, FL – The CMSV softball team continued their play at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida on Thursday with a two-game slate on tap, with the first contest being played against Catholic University which was followed up by a game against The Sage Colleges. The Dolphins dropped a heart breaker against Catholic in the opening game of the day 4-3. CMSV would struggle in their second matchup and lose the contest 14-0 to Sage.
The morning matchup against the Cardinals was an extremely tight affair, as it took a game winning hit in the final inning to hand the Dolphins a loss. CMSV got on the board early when
Katie Moos reached base on an error in the first inning to give her team an early one-run lead. After the Cardinals responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own, it was the Dolphins' turn to retake the lead. It was Moos who once again drove in a run, this time off a single, to tie the game up at two. This was followed by a
Taylor Milata single, which gave CMSV a 3-2 lead in the third inning. Things stayed that way up until the seventh inning, when a strong performance by freshman
Kayla Pagano was halted when the Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, giving Catholic University the win. Pagano struck out three after pitching in all 6.1 innings of the game while Moos and Milata both paced the Dolphins with two hits and one RBI each.
The Dolphin struggled in game number two of the day when they took on former Skyline Conference foe Sage. The Gators of Sage came ready to play against their former rival jumping out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning. CMSV looked to answer right back and were in position to do so after a Breeze Lyn-Morita single and a
Sophia Herrera walk, after the two runners got on board the Gators defense would tighten up and get out of the inning unscathed. The second inning of play both teams were held scoreless and it seemed the Dolphins had settled down. But the Gators bats would heat up again in the 3
rd and tally three more runs and take a demanding 8-0 lead. CMSV could not find an offensive groove for the remainder of the game, Sage would go on to win the contest 14-0.
The Dolphins will look to wrap up their Florida trip on a high note tomorrow as they will have to more games. CMSV takes on MCLA at 12:15 PM and Westfield State at 2:30 PM. This will be the Women's last day in Florida before they head back to Riverdale. CMSV currently sits at an overall record of 2-6.
