Zimmermann's Walk Off Lifts Dolphins Over Bullets

FT. Pierce, FL -     After losing a day ago, the baseball team was looking to get back to their winning ways down in Florida. After a slow start, that is just what the Dolphins did, as they were on the better end of a huge come from behind win over Gettysburg College 11-10. The team now sits at an overall record of 2-3 after the victory.

The day did not start off as the Dolphins would hope. Gettysburg came out and their bats were on fire, pouring in five runs in the first inning. The Dolphins made a quick pitching change which brought Tyler Reyes into the game. Reyes managed to hold Gettysburg at bay for the next three innings and let the Dolphins bats get going. In the third inning that is just what happened. With the Dolphins trailing 6-0, they finally got some offense going. Jake Blinstrub, Matt DiNorcia and Anthony Nocero all got on to load the bases. Then, freshman Michael Grisanti then came up with a monster hit to drive in two runs.

CMSV was not done yet, as they would add three more runs in the inning with Isidoros Bartziokas, Matt Albert and Tyler Paulino all getting an RBI to put the Dolphins to within one at 6-5. Reyes came back out on the mound in the 4th for the Dolphins and shut down the Bullets once more, giving his squad the chance to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. That is just what the Dolphins did, as they added three more runs which featured Nocero scoring a passed ball and a gigantic two RBI triple from Steven Hansen. This gave CMSV their first lead of the afternoon at 8-6.

Gettysburg and the Dolphins would then trade runs in the following two innings, keeping CMSV ahead 9-7 heading into the eighth. Gettysburg would not go away as they got three runs of their own in the top half of the eighth to regain the lead 10-9 for the first time since the fourth inning. CMSV was held scoreless in the bottom half of the frame and were trailing 10-9 heading into the ninth. They then called on freshman Pete Sanderson to keep the Dolphins within one in the top of the ninth and that is just what he did by retiring the side in order. It was now or never for the Dolphins, trailing by one, as they needed to get something going. Freshman Thomas Dunleavy was up to the task as he led off the inning with a double to put the tying run on second base. Grisanti, who already had three hits on the day, earned a walk during his at bat and put the winning run on base. With two on and nobody out, CMSV was now in control. Freshman Eric Zimmermann stepped up to the plate and was locked in and ready to go. Zimmerman ripped a double, scoring pinch runner Anthony Faldetta and Grisianti to win the game in style. The freshmen came up huge for the Dolphins and led them to their second victory of the season.

The men will now play Kenyon College tomorrow and look to continue their hot play and even their record at 3-3. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 1PM.
