Softball Splits Third Day Of Florida Trip

Clermont, FL - The women's softball team had two games slated for Wednesday and were looking to continue their winning ways and fight back to a .500 record. The women ended up splitting on the day, falling to Olivet College 9-0 and defeating Juanita College 5-2.

The first game of the day was against Olivet College bright and early at 9 AM. CMSV got off to a slow start in the first two innings but managed to get runners on base in the third thanks to Erin Patterson and Breeze-Lyn Morita singles. Despite getting the runners on, the Dolphins could not get the big hit to drive in some runs and even the score with Olivet which was 2-0 after the third inning. The Dolphins did not generate much offense from this point on besides a one out double to left by Taylor Milata in the sixth inning. The Dolphins were unable to drive her in as well. Olivet would go on to win the contest 9-0.

The second game of the day was a absolute thriller that resulted in the Dolphins coming out on top. It was another slow start for both teams, which did not see a run scored until the third inning. The Dolphins struck first, as Patterson scored off an Alicia Blevins RBI. The offense would continue to produce as they would generate another run in the fourth inning when Meagan Earley drove in Milata for the second run of the game. Juanita would get one back in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 2-1. The Dolphins would be held at bay for the remainder of the seven innings. Juanita would even the score in the seventh inning to force extra innings. This seemed to spark the Dolphins as they exploded for three runs in the eighth. Morita, Patterson and Sophia Herrera would all score for CMSV. Kate Moos, Herrera and Milata all recorded an RBI in the frame. Hannah Thompson would hold Juanita scoreless in the bottom of the eighth in route to the Dolphins second victory of the year.

The women, who now sit at an overall record of 2-4, will be back in action tomorrow. First they will take on Catholic University at 9:30 AM and will follow it up with a game against former Skyline Conference foe Sage at 12:15 PM.
