Clermont, FL - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team headed down south to open their season in Clermont, Florida in the annual Spring Games. Over the first two days of play, the Dolphins faced off against four separate opponents and picked up their first win of the season along the way.
Day one saw CMSV face tough competition in both Wheaton College from Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut State University. Offense was an issue for the Dolphins, as they had only one runner cross the plate over the course of the two contests. The team, however, did get production from all over their lineup, as
Erin Patterson,
Katie Moos,
Alanna Alioto-Reyes and
Breeze-Lyn Morita all registered at least one hit.
Day two of the Florida trip resembled the prior games as the Dolphins dropped their contest against the University of New England. After a pitchers' duel and strong defensive efforts from CMSV in the first three innings, the Nor'easters broke through in the fourth, posting eight runs to separate themselves for the rest of the game. The Dolphins offense would never find its groove as they only had two hits all game, both of which came off the bat of
Sophia Herrera. CMSV would go on the lose the contest 11-0.
Fortunately, the Dolphins took their experience from the first three games and secured their first win of the season over Swarthmore College to close out Monday's slate. Their offense showed up ready to go, tallying two runs in the first inning of play. The offensive fire power would not stop here, as
Katie Moos and
Taylor Milata would both cross home plate in the third inning to push the lead to 4-0. The duo were not done yet, as Moos would drive in two more runs while Milata would drive in one of her own. While the Dolphins bats were going,
Hannah Thompson pitched beautifully to keep Swathmore scoreless through six innings of play. The Garnets would break through in the seventh inning but it was too little to late as the Dolphins would go on to win 7-3.
After a rest day on Tuesday, the Dolphins will continue their slate of Spring Break games and return to action on March 13 to take on both Oliviet College and Juniata College.
