Clermont, FL - Like the College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team, the
John Muller-led baseball squad flew down to Florida this weekend to spend their Spring Break participating in a week-long bevy of games. The Dolphins opened their trip against Delaware Valley, with CMSV's strong offensive outpouring being the deciding factor in their 13-5 victory. This goes down as the team's first win of 2019.
The Dolphins got on the board early on against DelVal, as they took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After leadoff hitting freshman
Jake Blinstrub reached base to start the game,
Matt DiNorcia brought him home with a single. Despite grounding into a double play,
Anthony Nocero also got a run across before DelVal was able to record three outs. But the lead was short lived, as the Rams responded with three runs (one earned) against freshman starter Pete Sanderson. The 3-2 lead didn't last long, however, as a Blinstrub single scored Isodoros Bartziokas, tying the game up at three.
From there, it was all Dolphins, as five third inning runs put the game out of reach for DelVal.
Eric Zimmermann,
Tyler Paulino, Blinstrub and DiNorcia all recorded RBI to make it an 8-3 game. The offensive surge continued into the seventh, when a four run inning capped the afternoon off with a CMSV victory. Blinstrub led the way with an impressive four RBI and two hits, while DiNorcia (two hits, three RBI, two runs scored), Nocero (two hits, three RBI) and Bartziokas (three runs scored) all stood out in a strong way. Sanderson impressed with six strikeouts over four innings of work while
Amir Nitowski,
Sean McHugh and
Jeremy Glazer all performed admirably out of the bullpen.
The Dolphins will look to continue their winning ways when they take on Immaculata College on March 13.
