Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Dolphins Swept By Hawks In Non-Conference Matchup

Riverdale, N.Y. - The men's volleyball took their home court here at Peter Jay Sharp for the first time in over a month to take on non-conference foe Hunter. The men were looking to continue their winning ways after defeating York last time out.  The men had a major challenge on their hands as Hunter defeated the #3 team in the nation the last time they took the court.

The first set the Dolphins were led by junior Brendan Ryan who had three kills in the frame. Ryan's energy kept the Dolphins in it early. The Hawks would eventually make their run to take a 19-5 lead. CMSV continued to battle, as Jose Estrella made two huge blocks as well as adding a kill of his own. His strong play helped cut the lead 23-13 but it was too little too late as the Dolphins dropped the first set 25-13.

In set number two the Dolphins came out with some energy and Estrella contiuned making plays for the Dolphins. This strong play had the set tied at three. Hunter turned it up a notch and went a quick 12-1 run to take the lead 15-3. The Dolphins would not stop battling as they responded with a 8-1 run of their own to close the gap to 16-11 and force a Hawks timeout. Out of the timeout, sophomore Christian Santiago would get his first kill of the evening and shrink the Hawks lead to four. This was as close as the Dolphins would get. The Hawks ended the second set on a 9-3 run to take the set 25-15.

The Hawks would jump all over CMSV in the third and final set of the night as they jumped out to a 7- 1 lead and would never look back and cruise to the third set victory 25-11. Although the Dolphins fell in straight sets they had multiple positives on the night. Estrella and Ryan definitely made the nationally recognized Hawks work for their victory tonight. Ryan finished with three kills and Estrella added four kills and three blocks.

The Dolphins are right back in action this Thursday when they travel to NJCU in hopes of getting back to their winning ways. CMSV now sits at an overall record of 1-4.
