Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second Half Surge Lifts Dolphins Over Wildcats

Riverdale, NY- The Women's Basketball team took their home court on Saturday afternoon hungry for their first win of the season. After a tightly contested first half, the Lady Dolphins caught fire and cruised to a 69-50 victory over Randolph College.

The Dolphins were poised to secure their first win from the very first whistle. Despite a slow start shooting the ball, the Dolphins defense held strong and lifted them to a two-point halftime lead. It was Ashley Martin, Aria Rheams and Virginia Olvera getting the job done defensively and their energy would start to be contagious as the Dolphins started to find their grove. Once the first half ended, it seemed CMSV could not miss, DarNeisha Brice can certainly fill up the stat sheet and that is just what she did on Saturday as the senior poured in 26 points on 47% shooting. Brice stole the show on Saturday but her teammates found their stride as well, CMSV saw four scorers in double digit. Brice with 26, Rheams and Martin both with 12 and Gabriela Goldman with 10. The offense was definitely a bright spot on Saturday but it was the defense that was most impressive as CMSV registered 10 steals and held the wildcats to just 29% from the field. It is only coach Phil Stern's second game with this group but it certainly seems the team is buying into what he is bringing to the table.

The Dolphins now sit at an overall record of 1-1. CMSV will have four days off before their next contest, which will be right back here at Peter Jay sharp on Thursday at 6:00 PM. Coach Stern will be going for his 300th career college coaching victory. You will not want to miss this one.
