Riverdale, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team continued their home stand on Tuesday afternoon, this time taking on Old Westbury. CMSV have come inches away from securing their first conference win of their season, and they finally achieved their goal when they defeated the Panthers by the score of 3-1.
Despite Old Westbury putting a goal on the board, the game was largely dominated by the Dolphins and their strong offensive attack. This was started early in the game, as last year's leading goal scorer
Derrick Cordova buried a shot past the Panthers' goaltender just seven minutes into action off a pass from
Matthew Babcock. Cordova wasn't done there, as he assisted on goals from both the fantastic freshmen duo of
Mauricio Ricalde and
Sory Konate to give the team the lead for good.
While CMSV contained possession for the majority of the game, that didn't stop the defense from playing well when they were playing on their end. Goaltender
Padelis Astrinidis tallied nine saves in the victory.
The Dolphins will remain home for the next three games and will play host to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn this coming Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
