Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team entered their last game for the month of January with their sights set on snapping a three-game losing streak at the hands of Skyline Conference opponents. Despite losing their first game against Yeshiva University earlier this season, the Dolphins were out for revenge on their home court.
Over the first half of play, CMSV played their best brand of basketball throughout the 2018-19 season. In the first quarter, the team shot an impressive 53% from the floor and were led by junior big
Dez Brown, who had 10 points to lead all scorers. Despite slipping on the offensive side of things, the Dolphins defense kept the lead intact heading into halftime. Senior guard Yami Reyes impressed on the boards with five rebounds while also dishing out four assists over the first 20 minutes of play.
The Dolphins' strong offensive play continued into the second half, where CMSV contained Yeshiva for much of the final 20 minutes of play. After the Maccabees stormed back to cut the lead to five, the Dolphins struck back and went on a 14-2 run to close out the contest by the score of 74-58.
Brown had a monster contest, as she scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Reyes was all over the score sheet with 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists while
Leah Pinili added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists to the victory.
The Dolphins are now 5-13 overall while sporting a 4-9 conference record. They will return to the court on February 2 to take on St. Joseph's College Long Island.
