Riverdale, N.Y. - After a tough late second loss to St. Joseph's College – Brooklyn, the College of Mount Saint Vincent returned home and looked for a series sweep of SUNY Maritime on Saturday afternoon.
The first half looked different for the Dolphins, as they saw contributions from different members of the team than usual. Sophomore center
Vinny Tavella paced all CMSV players with nine points, as he converted three of his four three point attempts.
Mamadou Mariko came off the bench and provided five points, two rebounds and one assist in limited minutes while freshman Josh Pizmeny impressed with four points of his own. As a whole, the Dolphins shot 33% from the floor and 28% from beyond the arc while converting four of six free throw attempts going into halftime.
Unfortunately for the Dolphins, the second half looked eerily similar to their game against the Bears. Despite a strong second half from both
Raiquis Harris and
Jason Barrera, the team struggled to close the contest out. Despite shooting an impressive 48% from the floor, CMSV failed to make stops when it mattered most an ultimately fell to Maritime by the score of 68-64.
The Dolphins now sit at 5-14 on the year, including a 4-9 mark against Skyline competition. They'll look to rebound against conference powerhouse Yeshiva University on January 31.
