Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Last Second Layup Puts Bears Over Dolphins

Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team traveled to Brooklyn to take on St. Joseph's College for the second time in 2018. Despite a late game lead, the Dolphins couldn't sweep the season series and fell to the Bears by the score of 66-64.

It was an impressive first half for CMSV, as the Dolphins were excelling both on the offensive and defensive end of the court. Junior standout Raiquis Harris and senior Jason Barrera scored 10 points apiece while combing to shoot eight of 14 from the floor. The trio of Mamadou Mariko, Makai Johnson and Kalos Evans also chipped in with help in putting points on the board as they combined for 14 total points. On the other end of the floor, the Dolphins defense impressed. Over the first 20 minutes of play, CMSV forced five turnovers while forcing the Bears to shoot 37% from the floor and 20% from beyond the arc.

The Dolphins continued their strong play into the second half but ultimately faltered down the stretch. Despite having a late lead with under a minute left to go in the contest, a pair of clutch three pointers from the Bears knotted the contest up at 64. While the Dolphins had the opportunity to finish the game with a buzzer beater, a turnover with seconds to spare turned into a layup as time expired. Despite the loss, Harris filled the stat sheet with 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, four steals and three blocks while Barrera earned a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Johnson's eight points off the bench led the Dolphins while Mariko, Claudio Nmezi and Vinny Tavella combined for 25 rebounds.

The Dolphins will return to the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Saturday and will look to end their four-game skid against Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Mary College.
