Softball Advances In Skyline Conference Playoffs With Win Over Panthers

Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team opened up their road to the Skyline Conference Championship as the number four seed against Old Westbury. The low-scoring effort eventually ended in the Dolphins' favor, as the team went on to defeat the Panthers by the score of 1-0. With the victory, they have avoided elimination and will enter the weekend with a chance to walk away champions.

The performance on CMSV's side was a familiar one, as team ace Rachel Heizer dominated the Panthers. The senior pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits and three walks while striking out four in the process. Her 2018 ERA has now been lowered to a dominant 1.91 as a result.

The Dolphins' offense did its job as well, as the team got on base six times (five hits, one walk). Five different members of the team recorded one hit, including Heizer, Samantha Broo, Alanna Alioto-Reyes, Taylor Milata and Breeze-Lyn Morita. The game winning hit came off the bat of Milata, who tripled in the fourth inning to bring in Heizer for the game's only run.

CMSV will travel to St. Joseph's College-Long Island this weekend to finish out the postseason. Their first matchup in the second round will take place on Friday against Mount Saint Mary. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
