Baseball Secures Two Game Sweep Over CCNY

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team suited up for the first time this month and made it count. Despite traveling to Long Island for a home double header, the Dolphins returned to the Bronx with two more wins on their record as they defeated CCNY in both contests. CMSV combined for an impressive 26 runs between the two games.

While the Dolphins were put in an early five-run hole in game one, they crawled back and tied the game and never looked back. Freshman Jordan Perykasz had another impressive outing, as he paced the team with three hits and was tied with Matt Nesensohn with a team-high two RBI. Center fielder Emanuel Giumarra and designated hitter Justin Varvaro had two hits apiece, while Nesensohn, Tyler Paulino, Steve Hansen, Ross Bartziokas and Matt Albert added one hit each to the box score. Although Luis Castillo had a rough start on the mound, Ronald Russo picked up his teammate and pitched in five impressive innings where he allowed just two runs in 5.2 innings of relief.

Like the first game, the second heavily leaned in the Dolphins' favor. Nesensohn led the way with three hits, with Perykasz impressed at the dish once again as he knocked in two runs. Bartziokas had two hits and two RBI of his own as well. Eight of the nine members of the starting lineup registered at least one hit, with six of them (Perykasz, Bartziokas, Paulino, Giumarra, Nesensohn and Honorio Pena) bringing runners across the plate. Junior Tommy Sharfetz picked up the win, as he went five strong innings two runs, two hits and two walks with a career-high seven strikeouts in five frames of work.

Now at 8-11 on the season, the Dolphins will return to action on Saturday for a Skyline Conference double header against Mount Saint Mary College.
