Box Score 2 Riverdale, NY - As the postseason nears, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team showed their potential against the second-best team in the Skyline Conference on Sunday, as they split a double header against St. Joseph's College on Long Island. While they did drop one of the two games, the Dolphins kept it close all afternoon, proving they can hang with one of the top teams in the division.
The first game was a tight affair, with CMSV walking away with a 2-0 victory. The team was led by ace
Rachel Heizer, who pitched a complete game shutout with five strikeouts while allowing just five total baserunners. Heizer also paced her team on offense with two hits and one RBI, with teammate
Meagan Earley driving in the other run. Both
Alanna Alioto-Reyes and
Taylor Milata recorded hits in the first contest.
Despite the game two loss, there were positives throughout the extra inning affair. Seven Dolphins had at least one hit, with Milata and
Breeze-Lyn Morita leading the way with two hits apiece.
Hannah Thompson and Heizer combined for eight hits and six strikeouts on the mound.
CMSV will receive one final tuneup on Monday when they take on Yeshiva University to complete the regular season. As it stands, the team will enter the Skyline playoffs as the number three seed.
