Box Score 2 Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team hosted a double header on Saturday afternoon, and the results couldn't have been any more favorable for the home team. The Dolphins swept the conference double header against Old Westbury, with the second contest ending due to a walk-off double by sophomore
Taylor Milata.
The first game featured yet another impressive pitching outing by senior
Rachel Heizer. The starter allowed just five hits while striking out six over seven innings of work, allowing just one run in the process. Heizer was helped tremendously by the top of the Dolphins' lineup, as
Sophia Herrera,
Deanna Nardi and
Alanna Alioto-Reyes combined for seven hits, with each player driving in one run apiece. Both Milata and
Erin Patterson also helped in game one as they also had one RBI each.
Game two was the opposite of the original contest, as it was an offensive showcase. Reyes and
Samantha Broo paced the Dolphins with four hits each, while Herrera, Heizer,
Katie Moos and Milata had at least two hits. After pitching in game one, Heizer came out of the bullpen to provide the Dolphins with 2.1 innings shutout innings of relief. Because of her performance, CMSV trailed by only one run when Milata came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh, where her two RBI single resulted in the victory.
Despite having an 11-13 overall record, the Dolphins are fourth in the conference with a 6-4 record. The team will look to improve on that mark on Sunday when they take on Sarah Lawrence College.
