Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent women's basketball team came up short of their first win of the season Saturday night, as they lost to Yeshiva University 62-52. CMSV now sports a record of 0-4, including two losses against Skyline Conference competition.
The Saturday night contest was a back and fourth affair throughout but for every Dolphins run, the Maccabees had an answer. CMSV's lone lead of the night came at the 2:30 mark in the first quarter where they led by one point. This was short lived as Yeshiva answered with an 8-0 run to close out the quarter, taking 19-12 lead in the process. CMSV had a strong second quarter, which featured the Dolphins outscoring Yeshiva 13-12 and pulling them within six at the half.
Dez Brown led the Dolphins in the first half with eight points and six rebounds.
The second half was much of the same as the Dolphins' run was answered by a big three from the Maccabees. CMSV would get as close as three points on four different occasions but could never fully retake the lead. Despite a huge double-double from Brown of 15 points and 11 rebounds, Yeshiva proved to be too much as they went on to secure the victory. CMSV shot a season low 21% from beyond the arc and a rough 36% from the free throw line.
The women travel to nearby Skyline Conference foe Sarah Lawerence on Tuesday in hopes of their first win of the season. They take on the Gryphons at 6 PM and are the first game of the Skyline Conference double header which will feature our men's team at 8 PM.
