Men's Basketball Drops Close Contest Against Knights

Riverdale, NY

The men's basketball team was back in action at the Sharp Center since their overtime thriller against St. Joseph's Brooklyn. Another tight contest is what we got against Skyline Rivals Mount Saint Mary. A closely contested affair resulted in the Dolphins falling by a score of 59-55. CMSV now sits at 4-5 overall record and a record of 3-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Knights are now sporting an overall record of 7-1 and a Skyline Conference record of 4-1.

The first half had the Knights jumping out to early a 22-9 lead and were looking to knock the Dolphins out early. CMSV locked in and went on a 17-7 run to close the half which was highlighted by a three ball to beat the buzzer by senior Jason Barrera. The first half ended with the Dolphins only trailing 29-26. CMSV's first half featured six different scorers and a balanced attack on offense. The defense was really the story for the second part of the first half, forcing six first half turnovers.

Second half the Dolphins again started slow, falling behind eight early, but slowly grinding and working their way back into the game. By the six-minute mark the Dolphins finally took their first lead of the second half when Barrera finished a layup off a beautiful pass from junior Raiqius Harris. The rest of the half was a back and forth affair that featured four ties and three lead changes. The game eventually came down to the free throw line and the Dolphins struggled to knock them down. Mount Saint Mary on the other hand knocked down four consecutive free throws to end the game and went on to win 59-55. Despite the loss, CMSV's defensive effort was through the roof, holding the Knights under 6o points for only the second time this season.

CMSV now has a long break in front of them before they take the court again on December 31 against a strong out of conference opponent in Rutgers-Newark
