Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team was back in action on Thursday night when they took on GNAC powerhouse Albertus Magnus. The Dolphins were looking to win their second straight game for the first time this season. The Dolphins fought hard but ended up falling to the Falcons by a score of 79-65. CMSV now sits at a record of 2-7 on the season. The women have a week break before getting back on the court on December 19 against soon to be Skyline Conference foes Manhattanville.
The Dolphins started out playing well and hopped out to a small seven to five lead thanks to
Yamilersy Reyes, who scored five of the seven. This would be the only lead the Dolphins saw all night as the Falcons proved to be too much on offense as they kept hitting crucial three pointers any time the Dolphins would make a run. The theme continued throughout the game, as CMSV would cut the score to 10 and be on the brink of a comeback but then a big Falcons three would stop the comeback in its tracks. CMSV kept on pushing throughout, not giving up the entire night. A huge fourth quarter run got the lead down to single digits but it was too little too late to climb all the way back.
The Dolphins showed glimpses of greatness today, and it looks as if the season is about to be turned around.
Aria Rheams continued her monster season with 27 points and 20 rebounds. Rheams was not the only Dolphin to play well, as Reyes had her best night of the young season with 16 points and six rebounds. With these performances out of two leaders, CMSV is headed in the right direction going forward. Rheams is now averaging a double a double for the Dolphins with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
CMSV only has one game remaining before the New Year and they will fully dive into conference play which they currently sit at a record of 1-3. There is still plenty of time to turn this season around for the Dolphins.
