Kings Point, NY- Mount Saint Vincent Men's basketball team was victorious again in Skyline Conference play, this time against the United States Merchant Marine Academy, by the score of 70-59 on Saturday afternoon at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The Mariners fall to 0-6 (0-4 Skyline) with the loss, while the Dolphins improve to a 4-4 overall record with a 3-1 mark against conference foes.
The contest, as all conference games have been thus fa,r was a high energy game with a ton of back and fourth action. CMSV had the upper hand, having played in two overtime contests already this season, and the experience clearly paid off. The score was within two with only three minutes left to play, but Raiquis Harris and Jason Barerra played mistake free basketball down the stretch and were able to pull away from the Mariners.
Mount St. Vincent out-rebounded the Mariners 43-27, and went 14-for-18 (77.8%) from the charity strip on the afternoon, including 11-13 (84.6%) in the second half.
Barrera put up a game-high 21 points and grabbed 17 boards. Harris dished out a team-best seven assists and chipped in 16 points. Sophomore Vinny Tavella scored 10 points and brought down seven rebounds.
The Dolphins will look ahead to December 14 in preparation for their game at home against Mount Saint Mary College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM.
