TEANECK, NJ - The CMSV Men's Soccer team returned to action on Sunday night, traveling to take on Skyline Conference rival Yeshiva University.
Andrew Gomez scored the game-winner just over six minutes into overtime, to give the Dolphins their first win of the season.
The game flowed back and forth right from the opening kick-off, with both teams attempting double-digit shots in the opening 45' of play.
Cristian Perez broke through first for the Dolphins in the 35', after taking a pass from
Julius Tumukunde on the left wing and firing it past the YU keeper to make it 1-0.
The lead would stand for nearly the rest of the game, thanks to a seven save performance by
Padelis Astrinidis. The Dolphins were mere minutes away from earning a 1-0 victory but a CMSV foul set up YU for a free kick in a dangerous spot just outside the 18-yard box. Julian Ribak stepped to the ball and fired it past Astrinidis to equalize in the 82'.
The Dolphins continued to pressue for the remainder of regulation with
Guy Horcasitas forcing the YU keeper into two saves in the final 5 minutes of play.
In the overtime period, the Dolphins controlled possession and had their defense play as one, forcing YU into two offsides calls. In the 96' the Dolphins won a corner kick and Perez served the ball into the box, where it landed at
Jose Mendoza's feet. The ball came free and after a scramble in the box, Gomez was able to poke it past the YU keeper, giving the Dolphins a 2-1 victory.
