BRONXVILLE, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to the campus of Sarah Lawrence to play the Gryphons in a Skyline Conference double-header. The Dolphins earned a sweep thanks to stellar pitching by Mackenzie and
Rachel Heizer, winning 3-0 in game 1 and 2-1 in game 2.
The Dolphins improve to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the two victories.
M. Heizer started in the circle for the Mount in game one and earned her third win of the season, limiting Sarah Lawrence to just two hits over 7 innings, while striking out 8 batters.
The Dolphins got all the offense they would need in their first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning. Taylor Wittck lined a home-run over the left field fence.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Dolphins added two insurance runs. CMSV loaded the bases with one out, setting up
Katie Moos, who drove a pitch to center, allowing Wittick and M. Heizer to score and make the score 3-0.
The Dolphins collected 12 hits, led by Moos and
Samantha Broo who both went 3-for-3. Wittick and M. Heizer collected two hits each.
In game two, R. Heizer did it all for the Mount. She started in the circle, pitching 7 innings, scattering five hits and striking out six batters. At the plate, her two solo home runs were all the offense needed for CMSV to earn a 2-1 victory.
After giving up one run on two hits in the top of the first, Heizer settled and dominated the Gryphons batters over the final 6 innings.
