FARMINGDALE, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Long Island to take on Skyline Conference foe Farmingdale State in a doubleheader.
Two Rams pitchers combined to 5-hit the Dolphins in game one, while in game 2, the Dolphins surrendered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 7th.
In game one, only four Dolphins managed to scratch a hit off the Rams pitching staff.
Honorio Pena, batting clean-up collected two hits in four at-bats, while leadoff batter
Zachary Saunders was on base twice in four plate appearances. The freshman has now hit safely in all but two of the 18 games he has played in for the Mount.
James Valenti extended his hitting streak to six games in game one.
The lone Dolphins run came in the 7th inning when John T. McEwan led off the inning with a single to center, then after advancing to third on a wild pitch and grounder to the right side,
Luis Castillo lifted a sac fly to left, allowing McEwan to scamper home. For Castillo that was his 12th RBI of the season.
Evan Brown started for the Mount, going 6 innings, while giving up 11 hits and six runs, while striking out four batters.
Siddeeq Ali pitched the final two innings, giving up one run on two hits and fanning three batters.
In game two, Dolphins starter
Jeremy Glazer settled down after giving up three runs through three innings, limiting the Ram bats to just three hits in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings.
Trailing by three heading to the 7th inning, the Dolphins bats awoke, erupting for four runs, all with two outs, taking advantage of two Farmingdale errors in the inning.
With two outs and runners at first and second, pinch hitter
Kyle Tamburi laced a single up the middle, allowing Valenti to score. Castillo then reached on an infield error, allowing
Michael Kochen to score and make the score 4-2. Saunders then came to bat and smacked a two-run triple to center field to give the Dolphins a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, a leadoff walk and intentional walk, set up the Anthony Gigante, who cleared the bases with a two-run triple of his own, giving the Rams a 5-4 win.
