MADISON, NJ - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to New Jersey to take on FDU-Florham in a non conference game. The Devils scored in all but three innings, downing the Dolphins 11-3. The loss drops CMSV to 6-12 overall.
Evan Brown started and took the loss for the Mount, as the senior lasted only 4 innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned), on 4 hits. Brown struggled with control issuing 5 free passes, hitting 2 batters and throwing 2 wild pitches.
The top-5 batters in the Mount lineup all collected a hit,
Zachary Saunders went 1-for-4 with a run and 2RBI,
Luis Castillo went 1-for-5 with an RBI,
Steven Hansen went 1-for-3,
John T McEwan went 1-for-4 and
James Valenti extended his hitting streak to 5 games with a 2-for-4 performance
After falling behind 5-0 after four innings, the Dolphins bats awoke in the 5th. A leadoff walk by
Joshua Pacheco and a one out single by
Siddeeq Ali, set up Saunders, who delivered. The freshman smacked a 2-run double to right, allowing Pacheco and Ali to score to make the score 5-2. The next batter, Castillo swung at the first pitch he saw and laced a single to center, chasing Saunders home to make it 5-3.
The Devils would score 2 runs in the 6th and 4 more in the 7th to put the game out of reach for the Dolphins.
