TROY, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling upstate to take on Skyline Conference foe, Sage College in a doubleheader matchup.
The Mount struggled to find the offense in game one falling 7-0, then a nine run 3rd inning for the Gators, paced them to a 24-2 victory. The two losses drop CMSV to 19-17 overall nd 8-8 in conference play, with two Skyline game remaining.
Game One Notes
The Dolphins only managed four hits off of Gators starter Amy Hart.
Three of the Dolphins hits came off the bat of freshman catcher
Alanna Alioto-Reyes, who was on base all three times she came to the plate.
Rianna Laughridge collected to Dolphins only other hit.
Mackenzie Heizer pitched all six innings for the Mount. The senior hurler, struggled with command allowing six walks and six hits. Of the seven runs given up by M. Heizer, only two were earned runs charged.
Game Two Notes
The Dolphins committed seven errors in the field, allowing for 12 unearned runs to cross the plate.
Six different hitters accounted for the six Mount hits, with Alioto-Reyes, Laughridge,
Taylor Wittick,
Rachel Heizer and
Sophia Frankovich all getting a hit.
The Mount's two runs came in the top of the 4th inning with the score already 11-0. Alioto-Reyes led off the inning with a single to right field, she then came around to score on a wild pitch. Laughridge would smack an RBI single to center, allowing R. Heizer to score.
Looking Ahead
The Dolphins wrap up regular season play, with control of their playoff destiny. If the Dolphins win their final two games vs. Yeshiva on May 1, they will clinch the no. 5 seed in the 2017 Skyline Conference Softball Championships. In that scenario, they would play the no. 2-seed at 11:30am on Thursday May 4th.
