STATEN ISLAND, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Wednesday evening, traveling to take on the CSI Dolphins in a non-conference doubleheader. CSI swept both games, winning 16-6 in game one, then 3-1 in game two.
To begin game one, the Dolphins offense came through, scoring four runs. With the bases loaded and two outs in first,
Steven Hansen drew a walk forcing home
John T McEwan to give CMSV a 1-0 lead.
James Valenti would score on a wild pitch, then
Joshua Pacheco drilled a double bringing home two more runs, giving the Mount a 4-0 lead.
But in the bottom of the inning, CSI responded with nine runs of their own, as they sent 13 batters to the plate that inning alone.
Four more CSI runs would cross the plate in the 2nd and three more in the 4th to make it 16-4 after four full innings.
The Mount run in the 5th came via sloppy defense by the home side. McEwan would score thank to two infield runs allowing him to score from second base. A leadoff walk in the 6th, led to another RBI double by Pacheco, who was thrown out trying to leg out a triple.
In game two, CMSV scored first, thanks to a well placed bases-loaded bunt by
Steven Hansen, allowing
Honorio Pena to score.
Through four innings, CMSV starter
Bryan Cantero, held the CSI hitters to just two hits. But in the 5th, two throwing errors led CSI to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead.
