NEW YORK, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action on Monday afternoon, hosting non-conference foe, Albertus Magnus College in a doubleheader. The Dolphins won game one 9-4, but dropped a 15-10 decision in game two.
In game one,
Rachel Heizer started and went the distance for the Mount in the circle. The junior gave up 10 hits and four runs, while striking out four batters.
The Dolphins offense pounded out 15 hits, led by
Alanna Alioto-Reyes and
Katie Moos, each of whom collected three hits in the game.
The Falcons went ahead 1-0 but the Dolphins offense wasted no time to erase the deficit. Moos came to bat with two on and drove a two run single through the left side to give the Mount a 2-1 lead. The next batter,
Taylor Milata, laced a double down the left field line, chasing Moos home to give CMSV a 3-1 lead after one inning.
The Falcons got one back in the top of the 3rd but once again the Dolphins responded in their half of the inning. With one swing of the bat,
Mackenzie Heizer drilled her 1st home run of the season over the fence in center to put the Dolphins ahead 5-2.
In the 5th,
Hannah Thompson drove a two run double to right center field, then
Sophia Herrera drove in one with a single up the middle to give the Mount a 8-2 lead after five innings.
Milata would hit a sac fly in the 6th giving the Dolphins their 9th run.
In game two, the Dolphins picked up right where they left off in game one. The Mount exploded for seven runs in the 2nd inning to take a 7-2 lead.
The Falcons would chip away scoring one run in the 3rd, then blowing up for five runs in the 4th capped off by M. Castillo's second home run in as many innings to give her side an 8-7 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Dolphins tied it up at 8, thanks to an RBI single by Moos but a six run inning by the Falcons would prove to be too much for the Mount to overcome.
